Are you overwhelmed? Do you feel stuck? Don't know where to start? All of these questions refer to the term known as "Analysis Paralysis". You have a long list, or a pile of laundry, or a stack of bills. The mountain seems so big and the tasks daunting. You don't think you can complete it, so, it is much easier to just ignore the situation. What do you do?
It is all about using the "TOOL" of strategies. I have learned so many along the way and sometimes I have had to use several to accomplish anything. What it comes down to is you have to do some action, regardless of how small, to jolt yourself out of your frozen condition. Here is a short list and maybe others can add their ideas as well.
1. Set a timer in small increments - 1 - 5 minutes. Attack the task but when the timer goes off walk away for a short time and then set the timer again.
2. Make a 12" x 12" square with a string and put one item in it. Take action with that one item, then put another item in the square.
3. Make it into a game. Take all your tasks and write them on separate pieces of paper. Write time increments on separate pieces of paper. Put them in different hats. Pick out a task and pick out a time increment.
4. Ask a friend or family member to just sit in the room while you make a difficult phone call (bill collector, etc.) We all need cheerleaders in our lives.
5. Reward yourself often for the smallest of acheivements. It's motivating!
These are just a few of the strategic "TOOLS" we can utilize to keep us moving no matter how bad we want to practice avoidance behavior.
Until next time,
Stacey
TIP OF THE WEEK: Remember standing is still moving
Thanks for these great tips!!! I really like the idea of using a timer. This might keep me on track without getting too distracted when I know that my time is limited.
